Notes |
- James Massey wrote his will on 26 Apr 1790 describing himself as of Willistown. He left his plantation to his son Phineas who was to pay his brother Mordecai 50 pounds. At Phineas' death it was to go to his grandson James, son of Phineas, if he had lawful issue. If James did not, it was then to go to his closet surviving brother who did have lawful issue. One third of his lawful debts were to go to his daughter Mary Steel for her use as the Executor saw fit. A codicil to his will dated 31 Jan 1791 gave his daughter Mary the use of the west corner of his plantation, carefully described. In part. it was "where the new house now stands Begin«sup»g«/sup» at the road dividing between mine and Isaac Masseys land where the fence to the sout East o fthe new House joynes the lane, then along said fence as it now runs below the little meadow to the Road leading to Grubb's Mill." Mary was not to destroy or sell the timber nor rent or lease the land.
