News: Despite the Login on the Menu, no Login or Registration is required. We use this for administrative purposes only.

We now have three genealogy files on this site: our main database which is a combined ‘Ives-Leedom’ tree, plus two additional working trees with so-far unconnected people I've found along the way, ‘Leedoms-unknown’ and ‘Netherlands-unknown’. All of the Search results will identify which tree contains the individual or place in question.

Different sources sometimes have conflicting information and there are undoubtedly a few typographical errors in here as well. Please feel free to send us any corrections to errors you may find in our files. Additions are always welcome too!

Personal Information    |    Sources    |    All

  • Name Jan Pieterszen
Birth Huizen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands Find all individuals with events at this location
    Gender Male
    Death Aft 1662
    Notes
    • Named as Jan Pieterszen, of Huysen or Husen [Noord-Holland], in the baptism transcriptions of two of his children.

Jan Pietersen, a woodsawyer, from Husum, was in New Amsterdam about 1639. Under date of March 3, 1639, we have an indenture of Thomas Wesson to serve Jan Pietersen from Husum for three years. - Scandinavian Immigrants in New Amsterdam, p. 267
      .....
Correspondence from Douglas Buckelew 12 Aug 2003:
Elsje and Sara were not the children of Jan Pieterszen and his wife Elsje. They were the children of Jan Pieterszen and his second wife, Grietje Jan van Groeningen. After Elsje died in 1651, Jan Pieterszen married Grietje. The marriage record states that he married her on 15 May 1652. She was the widow of Frederick Jansen. You can go to the marriage records for the New Amsterdam Dutch Reformed Church and confirm this. You can also go to the baptisms for the New Amsterdam Dutch Reformed Church and see the baptism for Sara in 1662. Both parents are listed as Jan Pieterszen and Grietje.

If you read the deeds for 1651 and 1656, you will see that Frederick Jansen owned the land that was later sold by Jan Pieterszen and the widow of Frederick, who was Grietje.

I have researched this family for over 40 years and have copies of most of the original documents. Frederick Jansen and Grietje were my 9th g grandparents. Their daughter Anna, married my relative, Peter Buckelew.
Of course, you may have documentation that I do not have. If so, I would appreciate any primary source references.
