Notes |
- Richard Leatham was reported to Abington MM in the minutes dated 26th of 11th Mo, 1740, for having married a second time "contrary to the decent orderly rules established in the Society" and he refused to make acknowledgement. He was disowned from being a member on that date.
Richard's second wife's name appears to be Mary, referred to in two advertisements in the Pennsylvania Gazette dated 1742 and 1743 under the name Richard Leadame:
14 Dec 1742 - Leadame, Richard of Philadelphia will not pay debts contracted in future by his wife Mary. (The notice was withdrawn on 21 Dec.)
"Whereas, Mary, the Wife of Richard Leadame, hath misused her said Husband, and doth run him in debt unnecessarily; this is to warn all persons against trusting her on his Account, for he will not pay any Debts she shall contract after the Date hereof." - William and Mary Quarterly, 1901, p. 430
17 Mar 1742/3 "Friend Franklin: I Have again Necessity for Troubling thy News-Paper, about MARY, my Wife: It was Force that made me comply with publishing the last Advertisement in thy Paper. Pray insert in thy Paper now, that she abuses me her Husband so much that I cannot live with her....Richard Leadame." - Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine (vol. 34, No. 3, p. 203)
