Notes |
- Samuel was taxed in Southampton twp. as a single man in 1762 shortly before he married Hannah. After the marriage, the couple may have remained in the area for a short while, for two of their children were baptized at Churchville. The family moved on, however; Samuel and Hannah lived in Bristol twp., Phila. in 1774 (tax list); their son Daniel was baptized at the Second Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia during this time. Then they moved to Upper Darby, Chester Co., where Samuel was taxed in 1779-1781. By 1785 the family had moved to Haverford, where Samuel and Hannah spent the rest of their lives. Samuel Leedom served in the Revolutionary War. - The Staats/States Family by James S. Roberts
Middletown MM minutes entries regarding Samuel Leedom and his marriage to Hannah Staats:

6) The Clerk brought to this Meeting a Testimony against Samuel Leedom according to last Meetings' Order; which being read and approved, was signed on Behalf of the Meeting and Ezra Croasdale is appointed to give him a Copy thereof, and acquaint him with his Right of Appeal, and return his Answer to next Meeting
7th day of the 7th Mo, 1763
4) Ezra Croasdale informs this Meeting that he has given Samuel Leedom a Copy of our Testimony against him and acquainted him with his Right of Appeal; but Samuel did not resolve(?) him whether he would appeal or not; wherefore the Publication of the said Testimony is suspended for the present.
Samuel Leedom was taxed in Upper Darby for four horses and three cattle in 1779. In 1786 and 1788 he was taxed in Haverford Two for 270 Acres & Improvement and for 5 Horses and 4 Cattle. In 1790, listed as Samuel 'Leden', he was taxed for 270 Acres Land and Bldgs and 6 Horses, 4 Cattle. In 1802-1804 he is taxed in Haverford for 390 acres, stone house, log barn, 4 horses and 3 cattle. - The Staats/States Family by James S. Roberts
Samuel Leedom in Haverford is listed as receiving a Tax Discount in 1788, the reason given as 'Poor'.
I do not know who the two 16-26 year olds (1 m, 1 f) are with Samuel and Hannah in the 1800 census. And the nine adults in Samuel's household in Haverford in 1810 are impossible to identify.
Samuel's will is dated 9 Mar 1814, Haverford, Delaware Co. PA, and was proved 8 Apr 1816. In it he mentions his wife Hannah, and his children Edmund Leedom, Elizabeth Kirk, John Leedom, and Daniel Leedom. As executors he named his son John Leedom of Merion, Montgomery Co., and Samuel Davis of Haverford. The witnesses were David Lyons and William Johnson.
At the time he wrote his will Samuel's oldest son Edmund apparently did not have children. - Delaware County Archives, Folio #456; Filed 3/9/1814; Probated 4/8/1816
