- James'obituary in the Paxton Record gives a short story of his live beginning with his birth in Yorkshire and his arrival in America in 1817. He first worked in Vermont for four years then left for Philadelphia where he worked and married Laavina States. IN 1834 they removed to Ohio, staying seven years before moving to Illinois. He bought a mill on Sandy Creek near Magnolia and then lived in Roberts for the remainder of his life.
