We now have three genealogy files on this site: our main database which is a combined ‘Ives-Leedom’ tree, plus two additional working trees with so-far unconnected people I've found along the way, ‘Leedoms-unknown’ and ‘Netherlands-unknown’. All of the Search results will identify which tree contains the individual or place in question.

Different sources sometimes have conflicting information and there are undoubtedly a few typographical errors in here as well. Please feel free to send us any corrections to errors you may find in our files. Additions are always welcome too!

Christobel Bruchett

Female - 1655

Personal Information    |    Sources    |    All

  • Name Christobel Bruchett
    Gender Female
Died 27 Sep 1655  Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts Find all individuals with events at this location  [1
    Notes
    • Her maiden name is unknown in the 1893 Gallop genealogy, but is given as BRUCHETT in 'The Biography of John Gallop, Captain' by William Haynes in 1964. Haynes identifies the source of that information as the research of John D. Morrell who located

their marriage in the parish records of St. Mary's Church, Bridport (Dorset).

Christobel emigrated to Boston with the children in 1633, three years after husband John had come on the ship 'Mary and John'. From the writings of John Winthrop it appears that Christobel did not want to leave England, and fearing he would lose

John Gallup wrote a letter to Rev. John White in July 1632 to persuade Christobel to come - and if she still wouldn't come then to persuade her to send the children over (the letter is in the Notes for John). She obviously relented in 1633 and,

according to the notes in the 'Gallup Genealogy', was on a ship piloted by her husband. The author of the Gallup genealogy suggests that John Gallup's successful piloting of the ship through Boston Harbor may have prompted Winthrop's gift to him

of Gallup's Island - which is in Boston Harbor and still called Gallup's Island.
