News: Despite the Login on the Menu, no Login or Registration is required. We use this for administrative purposes only.

We now have three genealogy files on this site: our main database which is a combined ‘Ives-Leedom’ tree, plus two additional working trees with so-far unconnected people I've found along the way, ‘Leedoms-unknown’ and ‘Netherlands-unknown’. All of the Search results will identify which tree contains the individual or place in question.

Different sources sometimes have conflicting information and there are undoubtedly a few typographical errors in here as well. Please feel free to send us any corrections to errors you may find in our files. Additions are always welcome too!

    Notes
    • He is named as Amos A. 'Dillon' in his 1863 marriage notice in The Philadelphia Inquirer. In his wife Laura Clowdsley Dillin's 1864 obituary his last name is spelled as 'Dillin'.

An Amos Dillin is mentioned in an abstract of Nicholas Dillin's 1775 Bucks Co PA will. He named three sons of his son Thomas, to wit: Amos, Isaiah, and Thomas Dillin Jr.

Amos 'Dillen' is listed in the 1860 census of Upper Darby, age 23, occupation given as Blacksmith. He was residing in the household of Joseph Allen, Master Blacksmith.

An Amos A. Dillin is listed in the Jul 1863 Maryland Civil War Draft Registrations, age 24, born in PA, his occupation given as Coachsmith. He was a resident of Pikesville MD.

Amos A. Dillin served as a Private in Company K of the 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry (117th Volunteers). A Veteran Grave Index states that he served from Aug 1861 to Aug 1864 and is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Section 3, Lot C14. A different register of Military Burials states that Amos A. Dillin died 29 Aug 1864 and was buried the next day in Arlington National Cemetery, Bloc 2A, Range 1, Grave 42. His 'Residence Before Enlistment' is given as Kellersville, Delaware Co PA.

It seems likely that he was the son of Benjamin and Jennetta 'Dillen' who are listed in the 1850 census of Upper Oxford, Chester Co with their five children, 11 year old Amos among them. Benjamin's occupation is Blacksmith and both he and his wife were 44 years old and born in PA.
