Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at Covenant HealthCare- Cooper Campus. Age 92 years. Son of the late Floyd and Frances (Kimball) Carrier, Irl was born February 2, 1921 in Hodgeman, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. Irl married Anna A. Oczepek, his loving wife of 66 years, on July 26, 1947. She survives him. Irl was employed at Woolworths, C&O Railroad and then retired from General Motors. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, an usher, life member of Knights of Columbus Council #4232 and St. Mary' s Mall Walkers. Irl enjoyed golfing, caring for his roses and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving besides his wife Anna are two daughters and two sons, Gary Carrier, Saginaw; Janice Leichner (Joe Rueda), Saginaw; Sharon and Michael LeMay, Midland; Richard Carrier, Saginaw; five grandchildren, Jason, Kristy, Becky, Aaron (Gretchen), Whitney (Matt); one great-granddaughter, Viviann LeMay; his sister, Edith Black, Dodge City, Kansas; many nieces and nephews. Irl was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers Irene, Rachel, Nina Wilbur, Maurice, Russell and Nolan.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military services conducted by V.F.W. Post 1859. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. The Knights of Columbus Council #4232 will pray the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or charity of your choice.
