- His occupation is given as Painter in his 1834 marriage record to Maatje Bienefelt.
Emigrated aboard the "Rose Standish", leaving Rotterdam September 13, 1849 and arriving in New York.
He resided in Holland WI in the 1850 census, dwelling 314, visit 316. Next door is another Cornelius Van der Jagt, age 66. (Relationship to my Van der Jagt family is unknown.)
Living with his daughter and son-in-law John and Mena deMaster in 1880 Holland, Sheboygan WI census.
His death date is given as 5 Feb 1886 in Portrait and Biographical Record of Sheboygan County. I used the date entered here, from researcher Mary Risseeuw. A Sheboygan Press article dated 2 Feb 1920 under the heading "Thirty-Two Years Ago Today" shows that the date from Mary is correct:
C. M. Vanderjagt, one of the oldest settlers of the town of Holland died after a short illness at the residence of his son-in-law John Master, at 12 o'clock last night. The deceased was born in Burg Island of Schouwen, Holland, Dec. 19, 1812, and came to America in '48 stopping at Sheboygan and immediately located in Town Holland. He was a well to-do, industrious and respected citizen and quite popular. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Cornelius was described as "of the Town of Holland" in the probate of his wife Maatje's will in 1875. [2]
